Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

With a week of Christmas Baking only days away... I have been checking the cupboards to ensure I am stocked and ready to go full force!

Sadly I am completely out of Sweetened Condensed milk, and only have 1, yes one coupon....(tears, I know)... So I headed to my trusty friend GOOGLE and found the following Recipe:

1 cup instant -non-fat dry milk

2/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup boiling water 

3 tablespoon melted butter

Combine all ingredients in a blender, Blend until smooth.  Store in a cold place until ready to use.

This is equivalent to a 14 ounce can of eagle brand milk.

Now to determine exactly how much the savings are!  Eagle brand Sweetened Condensed milk normally costs in excess of $3 a can... so Today I will be doing some price comparisons!

OMG! Work is getting in my way...

Here I still, just waiting for my work close to finish drying so I can get dressed and hit the icy roads!  But beside me sits my pile of flyers, which luckily I got a day early, but have NO time to look at them...  My shifts are long, the drive is insane, and I have not time to do anything other then work, sleep and maybe eat.  So going forward, but of my posts will occur over the weekend.  I can't afford to give this up, as I save way to much, and I love sharing the deals I find, I just have to re think my approach!

I might go take a peak, and see what there is to be had....  I might find something, but I can't say I am a very big Thrift Shopper... So we will see.

Deal to check out this coming week... Giant Tiger, No Frills, Superstore, Zellers and Shoppers

Giant Tiger has Lactantia Cream on for $1 for the 500ml containers.. if you are a big cream user (like my husband) you will know that there has been $0.75 coupons on them for the past month or so... so snip off your old ones and use them to pay only $0.25 a container!  or $1 for a whole liter!!  I wonder if my kids will object to using cream verse milk this week?

 Hamburger Helper is also on at Giant Tiger, and if you have been lucky and found the $0.50 coupons (which I have not) you can pick these up for just $1.17.... but if your extra lucky, you will find the specially marked packages that have a coupon for FREE Green Giant Veggies on them!  Never will you find Veggies for that cheap, so even if you don't do the whole processed thing.... This is a great way to save on the healthy stuff!.

 No Frills, is my secret little treasure store.. this week they don't have much, but they do have Dove Soap on for just $1.50.... Now if you pick up 1 mens (if they carry it), and 1 womens soap, you can use the Buy2 Different line, Save $2 coupons... There for getting each pack of soap for just $0.50

 SuperStore, the store that I have learnt not to like!  With their inability to follow SCOP rules and regulations, to the fact that they don't really have the best deals... But this week Parkay Margerine is on for $3.49.  If you didn't stock up on Imperial when it was on sale, and you have been gathering the coupons from the 1 Litre Lactancia Creams... you can save an additional $1.... Making it cost just $2.49!  Great price to stock up for your Christmas Baking.

Then their is Zellers.  I have already posted the best deal of the week, with the potentially free Oxy cleansers... but there is also this deal ... Dawn is on for $1.14 less those old Brandsaver coupons... to save $1 when you purchase 2.. you can pick these up for just $0.64 a piece.

Colgate Total Toothpaste 75ml tubes are on sale for just $0.88, don't forget to use your $0.75 Websaver.ca coupon!   $0.13 a tube is a great price! (Sunday and Monday only)

Cheap Peanut Butter as Safeways Starting Saturday.

FREE: Uncle Ben's Fast & Fancy

Today while walking the aisles of Superstore, I noticed Fast & Fancy on sale for just $1,  it normally sell for about $2.50 each...   Then I remembered last weekend I found a few Save$1 coupons on Uncle Ben's ... I figured there had to be some kind of qualifying factor to the coupons but I dug them out to find out they were good on ANY Uncle Ben's Rice Products...

So with the sale at Superstore, and the Coupon I found at Calgary Coop the previous weekend, I got 5 bags of Fast & Fancy for FREE!  These will be a great addition to the next food bank box!

More P&G Samples!

P&G are Marketing Guru's!  They have Brandsaver.ca that prints and distributes coupons, Brandsampler.ca that sends out samples of products, and now they have Brandvoice.ca

Stop in each month and request 1 sample... simple go to Current Products... choice the one you would like to try, and request it.  If the page doesn't load, or no samples are available, check back the next day, as they do reload the samples!

"Mom, this is Fun!"

After a few months of gathering items for Free or Near Free prices we put together our first big box for donations!

My sons school is doing a food drive for the Veterans Food bank which has been hit extremely hard by the economic down turn.  After trying to confirm exactly what they will accept... we got the box put together.

I sent my son into the pantry and he came out with peanut butter, jam, pasta, tomatoes, soups, juices, baking supplies, canned fruit, canned veggies... you name it!  After confirming they do accept personal care items we topped up the box with shampoos, conditioners, soaps, body wash, razors, deodorant, vitamins, toothpaste...and the list goes on and on!

 My sons response to this was:  "Mom, this is Fun!"  I think he has finally learn that giving is so much better then receiving! 

Tomorrow I will help him get this 100+lb box on the bus, and we will hope that the school will help him get it off the bus, if not, he will have to haul many loads in, but he will do it with pride!
